Home-made Sweet and Sour Sauce

With wok and stir fry dishes there are lots of tasty options: noodles or rice, chicken or tofu, spicy or sweet and sour sauce just to name a few.  One favorite is the sweet and sour sauce, and you can make your own delicious sweet and sour sauce with just a few simple ingredients.

Sweet and sour sauce


Crushed tomato – 1  28oz can

Sugar – ⅓ cup

Fresh ginger, grated ~ 1 tablespoon

Soy sauce – ¾ cup

Oyster sauce – ¾ cup

Sesame oil – 1 tablespoon

Water – 3  ⅓ cups

Cornstarch – 1 tablespoon

Mix all ingredients, bring to a boil, and then add the cornstarch.

Tomate triturado – 800g

Azúcar – 75g

Jengibre fresco rallado – 15g

Salsa soja – 180g

Salsa de ostras – 180g

Aceite de sésamo – 15g

Agua – 800g

Maizena – una cucharada

Mezclar todo, hervir, añadir la maizena

*Note – The original recipe is in grams, and I tried to do the conversion as best as possible.  If you are able to measure you ingredients in grams (found in the Spanish ingredient list), it will be the most accurate.
